      Black History events at Reed College this year focus on the "African Diaspora: Movements, Traditions, and Legacies," and includes lectures by well-known speakers and authors as well as a music performance.

  • Diversity's Promise: Building Capacity for a Pluralistic Society
    February 1, 2012, 11:00 a.m., University of Oregon, Eugene, OR
      Speech by Dr. Daryl Smith, Professor of Education and Psychology, Claremont Graduate University. Sponsored by the Center on Diversity and Community (CoDaC), University of Oregon.

  • 22nd Annual Cascade Festival of African Films
    February 3, 2012- March 3, 2012. Friday/Saturday evenings. Portland Community College (Cascade Campus) and other Portland venues
      Films representing concerns that are political, historical, and social shown through the eyes of Africans, rather than a vision of Africa that is packaged primarily for western viewers. Each evening screening will be followed by a discussion session led by individuals from the area shown in that evening’s film or by individuals with expert knowledge of the region.

  • Lane County NAACP Freedom Fund Dinner
    February 25, 2012, Valley River Inn, Eugene, OR
      Paul J. De Muniz, Chief Justice of the Oregon Supreme Court, is the keynote speaker for this annual dinner.

  • 22nd Annual Cesar E. Chavez Leadership Conference
    March 9, 2012. Western Oregon University, Monmouth, OR
      1,500+ Latino high school students attend this exciting day of fun and learning. Dynamic speaker Consuelo Castillo-Kickbush is the Keynote Speaker, and will also be doing a keynote presentation open to the WOU Campus Community on Thursday, March 8 at 4:00 p.m. in the Pacific Room of the Werner University Center.

  • DisOrient Asian American Film Festival
    April 22-29, 2012. Bijou Art Cinemas, Eugene, OR
      DisOrient is a social justice film festival dedicated to deconstructing the media stereotypes of Asians and Asian Americans as "Orientals".
